Contacting the World logoOn 17-18 March representatives from countries including Palestine, Zambia, Poland and Brazil will arrive in the North West as part of the unique Contacting the World programme. Contacting the World is Contact Theatre’s revolutionary international theatre project for emerging artists. Now in its sixth year it redefines the way in which theatre is created on the global stage. This two-day double header is the perfect opportunity to meet the forward thinkers behind the project and the participants. The project, one of the main commissions for Liverpool’s 2008 Capital of Culture programme, culminates in July when 350 representatives from around the world take over Liverpool for a week long CTW 08 Festival of performance and workshops. Representatives from countries including Zambia, Palestine, Poland and Brazil have addressed their cultural and geographical distances to create brand new pieces of cutting-edge theatre. CTW encourages its participants to ask difficult questions about the complexities, challenges, and excitements of the global community. The key goal is to provide opportunities to make the kind of theatre that would not be possible without this type of unique international exchange. “We’re incredibly proud to be part of Liverpool’s celebrations. Liverpool’s commitment to young and emerging artists is an important part of the 2008 celebrations and what better way to showcase this by inviting some of the world’s most innovative young artists to the city.”
