For those of you who took part in the Big Youth Theatre Festival this year, I hope you will agree with our early prognosis that it was a hugely successful and enjoyable festival. We are extremely proud to have produced a bigger and better festival than ever before. There were more workshops and performances and more young people participating. “The atmosphere on site was awesome” (visiting artist) and the only thing that worked against us at times was the weather… If only we could control that! If you didn’t make it to BYTF this year we hope to see you there in 2009 (16-19 July), but remember, its getting more and more popular every year and its therefore advisable to book early.
The next two months for NAYT are very exciting. We are looking forward to a broad dissemination of our latest research publication Access and Excellence: Towards a national debate of Youth Theatre Practices (Neelands,Hewston and Raynesford) in the late Autumn and to hearing your feedback and responses. We are hoping to develop a National Quality Framework out of the debate and will be working with NCDT to offer a broad range of accreditation options.
We are also looking forward to moving into our newly refurbished offices on the ground floor at Darlington Arts Centre. We hope that many of you will come and visit us and of course the perfect opportunity will be at Raising the Game (23-25 April 2009) which will be held at Darlington Arts Centre.
Fundraising is still ongoing and NAYT remain optimistic of securing a stable and sustainable future. We will of course keep you all informed.
Jill Adamson
